Cambodia Waives Food and Accommodation Fee for SEA Games Delegates

PHNOM PENH: Secretary-General of the Cambodia SEA Games Organizing Committee (CAMSOC)- Mr. Vath Chamroeun, stated that on behalf of Cambodia as the host of the 2023 SEA-Para Games, they will not require SEA games delegates to pay for food and accommodation.

The announcement was made after a special meeting on 18 April 2023 with Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh(Deputy PM and Minister of Defence) and Thong Khon (Minister of Tourism and CAMSOC VP) along with other leaders of specialized committees.

Chamroeun said, "We are all very excited and filled with national pride under the high leadership of the head of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Prime Minister Hun Sen; we will all respect this decision."

The SEA Games budget had previously stated a $50/day fee for food and accommodation. Chamroeun considers the unprecedented decision to waive the fee as a great and noble gesture on behalf of the leaders of the Royal Government.

He called on the National Sports Federation, which governs the national team, to prioritize health and avoid injuries, especially while preparing for the SEA-Para Games. He wants the athletes to be ready to compete for national medals.

"This is an important message from the leadership of CAMSOC to improve the technical quality and health of Cambodian athletes," he said.

With only 16 days left until the 5 May opening day of the 2023 SEA Games, the torch has been relayed through almost all ASEAN countries: only Myanmar and Laos remain. The torch will circle the Tonle Sap Lake before finally arriving at Morodok Techo National Stadium to inaugurate the SEA-Para Games.
